Requesting a Sealed Document
On September 25, 2025, the Court issued a General Order outlining new procedures for obtaining sealed documents in civil and criminal cases. According to this order, sealed documents can no longer be accessed, viewed, or downloaded through CM/ECF. If an attorney or self-represented party needs a copy of sealed document(s) that are no longer available via CM/ECF, please follow these steps to request a copy:
- Reach out to the Clerk’s Office using the Contact Us link. Choose "Sealed Document Copy Request" to ask for a copy of the sealed document(s). Please include your case number(s) and document number(s).
- The requestor must first pay for copies at the current docket copy fee rate as established by the District Court Fee Schedule.
Note: Before providing a copy of the sealed document(s), the Clerk’s Office will verify that you are either counsel of record or a self-represented litigant in the case; and that you have the right to access the document(s) sealed by the Court. Once the information is verified the Clerk will:
- Provide counsel with a copy of the document(s) via encrypted email to the email address associated with your ECF account.
- Provide unrepresented parties with a copy of the document(s) via U.S. mail or in-person pick-up. Please note that documents can only be mailed to your address of record. If you have moved, you may file a Notice of Change of Address to update your contact information before we mail the requested copies.
