CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Chief Judge Martin Reidinger announced that the District Judges of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina have selected Mark T. Odulio to serve as United States Magistrate Judge for the Charlotte Division, filling the vacancy created by the elevation of the Honorable Susan C. Rodriguez to United States District Judge. Judge Odulio was sworn in on July 29, 2026.

Judge Odulio has served in the Department of Justice for over two decades, most recently as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division and Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, where he led a team of prosecutors handling national security, cybercrime, civil rights, and violent crime matters. In that role, he also worked closely with the U.S. Attorney's senior leadership to help shape charging decisions and prosecutorial strategy on the office's most significant matters. He began his career in 2000 as a Trial Attorney in the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, having been selected through the highly selective Attorney General's Honors Program, and later served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney handling white-collar matters in the Western District of North Carolina from 2007 to 2016. In addition to his public service, Judge Odulio spent three years in the private sector at Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., where he built and led an enterprise-wide initiative to review and strengthen the firm's operational risk practices. He is a recipient of the U.S. Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service, the Department's second-highest honor for employee performance.

Judge Odulio received his B.A. from the University of Maryland and his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where he served as an Associate Editor of the Maryland Law Review.

The renewable term of appointment is eight years.

Magistrate judges in the Western District of North Carolina handle a broad range of pretrial civil and criminal matters, including motions, settlement conferences, and, upon consent of the parties, full disposition of civil cases.
